Frequently Asked Questions
How Can We Help?
What ages do you cater for at Hopskotch Kindergarten?
We welcome children from 6 weeks old right through to school entry age (typically 5-6 years). We have specific programs for different age groups: our Toddler Program (2-3 years), Preschool Program (3-4 years), and School Readiness Program (4-5 years).
How do I enrol my child and secure a place?
Start by booking a visit to meet our educators and see our centres. After your visit, complete our enrolment forms and we’ll guide you through the process. We recommend booking early as our small group sizes fill quickly.
What are your operating hours and when are you closed?
Both our Toongabbie and Schofields centres are open Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 6:00pm. We’re closed on public holidays and for a short break over Christmas/New Year period. We’ll give you plenty of notice about closure dates.
How much does it cost and what payment options do you have?
Our fees vary depending on your child’s program. We’ll provide a detailed fee schedule during your visit and can discuss payment options that work for your family. Government subsidies may apply.
What makes your approach different from other centres?
We’re genuinely boutique – small enough that we know every child’s name, favourite story, and exactly how they like their cuddles. Our research-based programs feel like play, and our families become part of our extended family.
How qualified are your educators?
Every member of our team holds proper early childhood qualifications, but more importantly, they share our genuine love for children. We choose educators who understand that caring for your precious little one is both a privilege and a responsibility.
How do you build relationships with families?
We believe parents are children’s first teachers, so we work together as partners. You’ll receive daily updates, have open access to visit anytime, and always feel welcome to share your thoughts, concerns, or celebrations with us.
What ages do you care for?
We welcome children from 6 weeks old right through to school age. Our programs are designed specifically for each age group, so your little one gets exactly the right care and learning for their stage.
What are your operating hours?
Both our Toongabbie and Schofields centres are open Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 6:00pm. We understand busy family schedules and work with you to find care times that suit your needs.
What does a typical day look like for my child?
Each age group follows routines designed for their developmental needs. Days include a mix of play-based learning, outdoor exploration, creative activities, rest time, and social interaction. We follow predictable patterns that help children feel secure.
Do you provide meals and what about dietary requirements?
Please discuss meal arrangements during your visit as this varies by program. We work closely with families to accommodate all dietary requirements, allergies, and cultural food preferences. Your child’s safety and wellbeing are our top priorities.
What happens if my child gets sick or injured?
We follow strict health and safety protocols. If your child becomes unwell, we’ll contact you immediately. For injuries, we provide first aid and will call you depending on the severity. All our educators are trained in first aid and emergency procedures.
How do you handle children who are still learning toilet training?
Our experienced educators support children at whatever stage they’re at. We work with families to follow your child’s routine and progress at their own comfortable pace. No child is excluded because they’re still learning.
Can I visit during the day to see how my child is doing?
Absolutely! We have an open-door policy and welcome family visits. You can pop in anytime – no appointment needed. We believe in transparency and want you to feel comfortable and connected.
Do you provide meals and what about allergies?
Yes, we provide nutritious morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea prepared fresh on-site. We work closely with families to accommodate all dietary requirements and allergies – your child’s safety and wellbeing always come first.
What is your teaching philosophy and approach?
We use a research-based approach that values play, connection to nature, and inquiry-based teaching. Children learn through hands-on exploration, guided by qualified educators who understand how young minds develop best.
How do you prepare children for primary school?
Our School Readiness Program focuses on building independence, social skills, and early literacy and numeracy foundations through engaging, play-based activities. We track each child’s progress and provide detailed portfolios showing their development.
How do you support children with additional needs or learning differences?
Every child is unique, and we celebrate individual differences. Our educators work closely with families and can connect with external specialists when needed. We believe in inclusive practices that support every child’s success.
How do you communicate with families about our child's progress?
We maintain regular communication through daily updates, photos, learning portfolios, and scheduled meetings. You’ll always know how your child is developing and what exciting discoveries they’re making.
What qualifications do your educators have?
All our educators hold relevant early childhood qualifications and bring years of experience. They participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in early childhood education and care.
